The Inescapable Power of Truth and History

Written by Prof. Mannixs E. Paul, PhD, FCFIP, FCIML, FCECFI, FFAR

Throughout time, many leaders—both male and female—and heads of families have attempted to suppress the truth or rewrite history. Yet, no matter how uncomfortable the past may be, it exists not to imprison us but to guide our present-day decisions. We cannot live in denial of history, nor can we rely solely on past glories or tragedies as excuses for inaction today.

For many, revisiting past events is difficult, often filled with regret, guilt, or shame. However, what truly matters is not the mistakes themselves but how we respond to them. Repentance, confession, apology, and restitution are necessary steps to address the unintended consequences of our actions. True healing begins when individuals take responsibility, not when they bury their wrongdoing in silence.

A person who refuses to confront their history is bound to repeat its errors. Sadly, it is often the next generation that bears the burden of such avoidance. The truth, no matter how deeply hidden, always resurfaces—just like gas trapped underwater eventually bubbles to the surface, revealing its presence through its unmistakable odor.

Let us not be among those who allow the stench of unresolved truths to poison the future. Instead, may we walk in honesty, humility, and the courage to set things right, for our sake, and for the generations to come.
